Board Certification Renewal Information

Certifications must be renewed every 2 years to be considered Active Status and listed in the Meditation Specialist Directory. Renewal applications are due by April 30th.

RENEWAL REQUIRES with each 2 year term, that the Meditation Specialist adhere to the Code of Ethics as well as:

Continue to be in good standing in their work environment.
Be in daily active practice in Meditation.
Attend three audio monthly conference calls per year.
Attend one Center for Meditation Science event within the 2 year period in person or web based recording of any event.
Meditation Specialist I (MSI-BC) Renewal of certification consists of 3 hours of continuing education in addition to, 12 teaching hours over a period of 2 years. Renewal cost: $225

Clinical Meditation Specialist II (CMSII-BC) Renewal of certification consists of 5 hours of continuing education in addition to, 12 teaching hours over a period of 2 years. Renewal cost: $225

Advanced Practice Meditation Specialist III (APMSIII-BC) Renewal of certification consists of 5 hours of continuing education in addition to, 12 teaching hours over a period of 2 years. Renewal cost: $225

Successful completion of specified contact hours of Continuing Education in Integrative and Complementary medicine and/or Meditation within the two year period preceding the date of expiration of the certification period. At least forty percent (40%) of the contact hours must directly address Evidence – based relaxation and meditation practices. The remaining contact hours can be related to alternative and complementary methods of practice; studies that facilitate self-care and growth; and transformation within a holistic context. Alternative options for Continuing Education Units can be considered by the Board. The contact hours must be approved by a licensing board, credentialing body, educational institution or other qualified individual or organization. Appropriate documentation of continued education (such as certificates of completion) is not required with application for renewal.

Active Certifications must be renewed every two years to be considered Active Status. Non-renewals will be put on the INACTIVE list for 12 months. In order to reactivate, an applicant must have completed the renewal form and submit an appropriate late fee. Inactive status does not give permission to use meditation specialist credentials nor to receive any discounts on products or trainings.

Certification Renewal Agreement

Specialists applying for renewal must review and agree to the Renewal Agreement. The Renewal Agreement ensures that upon authorization, that you have read, understood and agreed to the rules, standards, and policies submitted in the NMSCB Code of Professional Standards. Review it here.

Lapsed Status

Once you have lapsed you must retake all exams prior to becoming re-certified and are not eligible to use the epithet, MSI-BC, CMSII-BC or APMSIII-BC, if your certification has not been renewed by the expiration date. Renewals packets including a renewal application, documentation for contact hours and the application fee must be completed by April 30th of the renewal year.
